Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the two compounds in cannabis that has the biggest health advantages. The other is tetra-hidrocarbinol (THC). THC is responsible for the psychoactive effects of cannabis or becoming “high.” Trace levels of THC may be present in CBD oil marketed in certain areas.

Why Use CBD Oil?
We don’t know exactly how CBD works. Unlike THC, CBD has less affinity for the brain’s cannabinoid receptors. THC binds to these molecules to provide psychoactive effects. As an alternative, CBD modulates pain-regulating opioid receptors. It also binds to glycine. These regulate serotonin, the “feel-good” hormone.

Doctors may recommend medicinal marijuana to patients with chronic pain, such as cancer patients. CBD may have a role in this benefit. A 2012 Journal of Experimental Medicine study is worth mentioning. Inflammatory substances were administered into animals. Then CBD was given to rats.
The CBD-treated rats had decreased inflammation and nerve discomfort (pain caused by damage to your nerves). Scientists think CBD decreases nerve pain by binding to brain receptors that govern the pace of nerve signal transmission.
There isn’t much research on CBD’s use in alleviating chronic pain in humans. Studies on THC typically include it. The effects of CBD are difficult to separate.
According to a 2015 study in Neurotherapeutics, CBD may help treat anxiety disorders.
The researchers found that CBD has substantial anti-anxiety benefits in animals. But the findings weren’t what you’d anticipate. Most studies found that smaller dosages of CBD (10 mg/kg or less) reduced certain symptoms of anxiety, but greater doses (100 mg/kg or more) had no impact.
The way CBD works in the brain may explain this. When used at modest dosages, CBD may function like other chemicals that ordinarily bind to the receptor, enhancing signaling.
At greater dosages, too much receptor activation might have the opposite effect. This would negate the benefits of CBD. There aren’t many human studies on CBD’s anxiety-relieving properties.
A 2019 research in the Brazilian Journal of Psychiatry is one of the few. The research had 57 males take CBD oil or a sugar tablet before a speech. Anxiety levels were based on blood pressure and heart rate. They also employed the Visual Analog Mood Scale, which is trustworthy (VAMS).
Men who took 300 mg CBD oil had less anxiety than those who took a placebo. Interestingly, males taking 100 mg or 600 mg of CBD oil had no such benefits.
A 2015 study in Substance Abuse suggests that CBD oil may benefit patients with addiction. The review looked at 14 studies. Nine of the research focused on animals, while five focused on people. The researchers said CBD might help patients addicted to opioids, cocaine, or stimulants. But CBD has varying effects on various addictions.
For example, CBD without THC did not reduce opioid withdrawal symptoms. However, it did lower cocaine, methamphetamine, and other drug seeking behaviors. Research is required to see whether CBD may assist cure cannabis and nicotine addiction.
A 2017 JCI Insight study found that CBD oil may lessen the risk of heart disease by lowering blood pressure. Nine healthy males were given 600 mg of CBD or a placebo. After stressful events like exercise or acute cold, males who took CBD had reduced blood pressure.
The research examined stroke volume (the amount of blood remaining in the heart after a heartbeat). The males who took CBD had a lower stroke volume than the placebo group, indicating better heart pumping.
The research reveals CBD oil may be beneficial for persons with high blood pressure who are stressed or anxious. However, there is no proof that CBD oil helps cure or prevent hypertension. Stress may exacerbate hypertension but not cause it.
The FDA approved Epidiolex, a CBD oral solution, in June 2018.
Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome are uncommon types of epilepsy in children under 2. The seizures are lifelong and start in the first year of life. Its ability to treat seizures outside of these two conditions is unknown. Even with Epidiolex, the anti-seizure effects are unknown.
CBD may interact with seizure medications like Onfi (clobazam) and increase their blood concentration. But further investigation is required. Revisit CBD oil’s potential for easing nerve pain and stress. But more dosages don’t automatically guarantee bigger effect. Also, many CBD research have been done on animals, making it difficult to predict human effects.
CBD oil has been demonstrated to have adverse effects in studies. Severity and nature vary from person to person.

Viral CBD oil may raise liver enzymes (a marker of liver inflammation). Patients with liver illness should see their doctor before using CBD oil. Regular blood liver enzyme testing is advised.
Pregnant or nursing women should avoid CBD oil. The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages pregnant women to avoid marijuana due to developmental concerns. While the effects of CBD remain unknown, it does cross the placenta.
